I am soooo not particular… June 4, 2006

…about most everything. Okay, I’m sure that there are a few things about which I’m particular. But not most things.

Including bed covers. They are all strewn about. I don’t care. They are hanging halfway off one side of the bed. I don’t care. The sheets are bunched up. I don’t care.

And because I don’t care, I don’t notice. I’m not bothered by it, therefore it doesn’t even register in my consciousness. It doesn’t occur to me to notice or do anything about it. Include making the bed when I get up. (I am 99.9% of the time the last one out of it.) Apparently, there is an unspoken, but universal, rule that whoever gets out of the bed last is supposed to make it. I didn’t know. My husband has been trying to convince me of this for about 9 years. I haven’t quite gotten it yet. Because it hasn’t mattered to me yet.

But it should. Not because I shouldn’t be who I am, but because I should care about who he is. Because 30 seconds of throwing the sheets and blankets over the bed in the morning will bring a smile to his face. It will keep him from having to make the bed at night 20 seconds before he gets in it. It will keep him from having to make his half of the bed while I’m still in it because he thinks that otherwise this is all that will get accomplished. Because it is one small thing that I can do that makes a big difference to the one I love. That’s worth it.

Oh yeah, and it makes a much more convincing argument to our 5 year old that it’s a worthwhile endeavor. (Not that I care. ;) )

how funny! What was the one thing I was thrilled about when Dad went on that mini vacation with his sisters??? (because I made the bed before I left for work)…I CAME HOME TO A MADE BED!!!!

Sorry for all the years I didn’t make mine for you! And for the landfill that was my room for so many years. At least I closed the door? :)

My husband & I are new to blogging and we were just surfing around tonite and found your blogs and can really relate them. I laughed so hard when I read a couple of yours that my daughter came out of her bedroom and told me I was keeping her awake!! So I put a pillow over my mouth and continued to read. I will enjoy checking back here often.

    be blessed…..

Thanks, Gina, for the encouragement. Good to know I’m not the only one laughing at the ramblings in my head. Means I’m probably not insane…yet. :) I’ll try to tone it down a bit so your daughter can get some sleep, and so you don’t pass out from lack of oxygen. ;) So good to have you reading.

  5. Gina Says:

Oh no! Don’t tone it down!! My daughter has a “gift” for finding things to keep her awake…and I need the laughs (partly to offset her “gift!”). I’ll try not to pass out….you just keep writing.

  6. Kerri Says:

Deal. I’ll continue to be my charming self. LOL ;)

Cory is hilarious!! I also like the feeling of sliding into a made bed but that hasn’t happened since the last time we stayed in a hotel. :D

I’ve actually made the bed everyday since this post (except for one day when he did it, but he said I still get credit). But I use “made” in very loose terms. No quarter bouncin’ off those sheets! Which is probably why he made it that day, to get it closer to the way he likes it! Oh well. I’m still actin’ all proud of myself. You’d think I’d climbed Everest or somethin’! ;)

  9. Bald Man Says:

Be proud, babe! It’s funny how “little” things like that can make a person feel loved.

  10. Love the One You’re With… Says:

[...] me, one day, showing my love took the form of making the bed on a daily basis. I am not naturally a making-the-bed type of girl. (You’re just going to crawl back in and [...]
